How to get a flight attendant job in Nigeria; it is easy for me to write about this because I had my own personal experience of rejections after cabin crew interviews.
In Nigeria there is belief that the only way to get a flight attendant job is through connections, well it is true that if you know someone working in an airline it could be a path way but it can never be the only way. I am a living example that it is not about big connections only, I didn’t have any big connections infact my dad introduced me to a manager of an airline who was also a church member, he (the manager) told me to bring my cv to his office I did but I never heard from the airline.
A friend of mine told me about the flight attendant job opportunity in that same airline, she told me submit my cv to the security guard who will help me give it to one of the drivers of the airline, the driver went to submit it directly to the cabin services department. You see how God used what most people look down on to lift me up. Now let’s dive into today’s article….
You have graduated from university education, done your NYSC.
You have watched countless videos of flight attendants walking through airports in beautiful uniforms.
You have probably imagined yourself standing at the aircraft door, welcoming passengers with a smile and making announcements inside the cabin.
Then you start asking the question:
How do I actually get a flight attendant job in Nigeria?
And this is where reality begins.
Becoming a flight attendant is not simply about wearing a uniform, travelling and taking beautiful pictures at airports.
It is a competitive career.
You may apply and not hear back.
You may attend an interview and not get selected.
You may meet every requirement and still be rejected.
You may even attend several interviews before an airline finally gives you an opportunity.
I know this because I went through four rejections myself before I eventually got my opportunity.
So, if you are currently searching for flight attendant jobs in Nigeria, I want to give you something more useful than a list of requirements.
I want to tell you what I would do if I were starting again.
Step 1 of How To Get A Flight Attendant Job In Nigeria: Consider Getting Your Cabin Crew Licence
One of the things I believe aspiring cabin crew in Nigeria should seriously consider in 2026 is attending an aviation school and obtaining a cabin crew licence before applying for airline jobs.
Let me explain why.
When an airline hires someone who has never undergone cabin crew training, the airline has to invest significant time and resources into training that person from the beginning.
This is what is commonly referred to as ab initio training.
Depending on the airline and training programme, this can take four to six weeks.
By contrast, someone who already has the relevant cabin crew training and licence may only need conversion or aircraft type training, particularly when moving into a particular aircraft type and the airline’s own procedures.
In some Nigerian airline operations, conversion training can be around 5 to 7 days, depending on the circumstances and the airline’s training requirements.
An ab initio cabin crew training programme can take approximately 4 to 6 weeks, depending on the school, airline and curriculum.
That is a considerable difference in training time.
However, there is something I want you to remember:
Having a cabin crew licence does not equal experience, and it is not an automatic employment strategy.
Please do not spend money on cabin crew training believing that the certificate itself guarantees you a job.
It does not.
Your licence demonstrates that you have received relevant training.
Experience demonstrates that you have actually worked in the profession.
Airlines can still reject candidates who already have cabin crew licences.
So get the licence if it makes sense for your career strategy, but do not treat it as a golden ticket.
Step 2 of How To Get A Flight Attendant Job In Nigeria: Keep the Contact Details of Your Classmates
This might sound like a small thing.
It isn’t.
When you attend your ab initio cabin crew training, keep the numbers of your classmates.
Do not behave as though you have all the connections in the world and therefore do not need anyone.
Aviation is a people industry.
The person sitting beside you during training today could be working for an airline tomorrow.
And that person might hear about a recruitment opportunity before it is publicly advertised.
I know this because I got my first cabin crew job through information I received from my school friends about an airline that was hiring.
Think about that.
I did not get the information from some fancy recruitment website.
I got it through people I had met during my aviation training.
That is why relationships matter.
Stay connected with your classmates.
Ask how they are doing.
Celebrate their successes.
Keep in touch.
You never know where the next opportunity will come from.
Step 3 of How To Get A Flight Attendant Job In Nigeria: Pray
I know this might not appear in a typical career guide.
But I am writing from my own perspective and experience.
Pray.
I cannot overemphasise this.
You can prepare your CV.
You can attend aviation school.
You can practise interview questions.
You can improve your communication.
You can attend recruitment events.
You can build connections.
But ultimately, there are things you cannot control.
I believe God is Almighty and can rearrange situations to favour those who put their faith in Him.
There were opportunities I could not have created for myself.
There were situations I could not have predicted.
There were doors I could not have opened.
So prepare yourself professionally, but do not forget your faith.
Prepare, pray and keep moving.
Step 4 of How To Get A Flight Attendant Job In Nigeria: Attend Cabin Crew Conferences and Consider Mentorship
If you have the opportunity to attend cabin crew conferences, aviation events and industry networking programmes, take advantage of them.
You may meet people who are already working in the industry.
You may learn about the recruitment process.
You may discover mistakes you did not know you were making.
You may hear about opportunities.
And if you can afford professional mentorship, I also believe it can be valuable.
But let me make something very clear. Mentorship does not guarantee employment!
Anyone who promises you an airline job simply because you paid for mentorship should make you very cautious.
Good mentorship should help you understand the industry beyond what you learned in an aviation school.
It can help you understand:
How recruitment works
How to prepare for interviews
How to improve your CV
How to present yourself professionally
How cabin crew actually work
How to handle rejection
How to navigate the aviation industry
And sometimes, it can help you become aware of recruitment opportunities.
This is particularly relevant in Nigeria.
Why You May Not See Every Nigerian Airline Job Advertised Online
This is something aspiring crew need to understand.
From my experience in Nigerian aviation, not every cabin crew recruitment opportunity is widely advertised on social media or job websites.
Sometimes an airline knows that it needs more cabin crew because of resignations, fleet expansion, new routes or operational requirements.
The information may initially circulate internally.
An employee may hear that the company is looking for additional cabin crew.
That information can then spread through professional networks.
And suddenly, the airline is conducting recruitment.
This is why networking matters.
However, I want to make an important distinction.
Networking is not the same thing as having a connection who can guarantee you a job.
Your connection might tell you about an opportunity.
You still have to prove that you are suitable for the position.
Step 5 of How To Get A Flight Attendant Job In Nigeria: Control Your Emotions After Rejection
This is one of the biggest pieces of advice I would give aspiring cabin crew.
Please do not go online immediately after an unsuccessful interview and start posting:
“This airline is corrupt.”
“They already knew who they wanted.”
“The interview was fake.”
“They only selected people who knew someone.”
Maybe there was an issue with the recruitment process.
Maybe there wasn’t.
The reality is that you often don’t know the full story behind an airline’s hiring decision.
And when you go online looking for sympathy, what are you actually going to receive?
Opinions.
Speculation.
Pity.
Arguments.
And perhaps a few hundred people telling you that you deserved the job.
But none of that changes the outcome. It does not give you a job!
Instead, control your emotions.
Take some time.
Review what happened.
Ask yourself:
Did I prepare properly?
Did I understand the airline?
Did I communicate effectively?
Was my body language positive?
Did I demonstrate teamwork?
Did I answer the questions naturally?
Did I look professional?
Did I understand what cabin crew actually do?
Then improve.
Be smart with your emotions.
Your aviation career is bigger than one interview.
Step 6 of How To Get A Flight Attendant Job In Nigeria: Develop a Never Give Up Mindset
Let me tell you something personal.
I went through four rejections.
Four.
Imagine applying repeatedly and hearing no.
It would have been very easy to decide that aviation was not for me.
But I kept going.
Eventually, I got the opportunity.
And that is why I always tell aspiring flight attendants:
Do not allow rejection to convince you that you are not good enough.
Sometimes rejection means you need more preparation.
Sometimes another candidate was simply a better fit for that particular vacancy.
Sometimes the airline’s requirements changed.
Sometimes there were more qualified candidates than available positions.
Sometimes the timing simply wasn’t right.
You may attend five interviews and not get selected.
That does not mean you should stop.
Learn from each one.
Your sixth interview may be different.

An airline is a business.

You are responsible for following safety procedures and responding to emergencies.
Customer service
You interact directly with passengers and influence their experience.
Teamwork
You work with other cabin crew members and the flight deck.
Professionalism
You represent the airline.
Communication
You communicate with passengers, colleagues and other aviation professionals.
Problem solving
You may encounter unexpected situations that require calm and appropriate action.
So when you walk into an interview, don’t only think:
What can this airline give me?
Think:
What value can I bring to this airline?

Don’t Apply For A Flight Attendant Job In Nigeria Just Because You Want to Travel
I know the travel aspect is attractive.
You see flight attendants in Dubai.
You see them in Paris.
You see them in London.
You see them walking through beautiful airports.
You see the hotel rooms.
You see the uniforms.
But there is another side to the flight attendant job which is the real reality.
You will work.
You will report early.
You may work late.
You will work with different people.
You will work with your superiors.
You will deal with difficult passengers.
You will follow procedures.
You will be responsible for safety.
You will sometimes be tired and still expected to perform professionally.
So before applying for cabin crew jobs in Nigeria, ask yourself:
Do I actually want the job, or do I only want the lifestyle I see online?
There is a difference.
